Luke 24:49 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit • They were instructed to wait in Jerusalem until the promise at Pentecost. • They were in “one accord”, unity. Acts 1:14, 2:1. • One accord or unity is the work of the Spirit and the pleasure of God. • God hates division- Proverbs 6:16-19 One Who Sows Discord Among Brethren.
The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit • We are called to “keep” the unity the Spirit has given- Ephesians 4:3 “being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” • You quench the Spirit when you create tension; you flow in the Spirit when you build unity.
The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit • II Cor. 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.” • Acts 2:42 “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship,” • Fellowship is not an interruption to the flow of the Spirit. Fellowship is the appropriate biblical reaction to the flow of the Spirit.
The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit • From the Greek word “Koinonia” (used 20 times in the N.T.). • Koinósmeans “common”… “in the sense of what concerns all, e.g., societies, monies, resolves, and in the sense of what is of little value.” (Kittle). • Koinoniafellowship is NOT some great spiritual moment but hanging out together doing what some people would think is “of little value.”
The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit • What appears to be of “little value” is really very valuable! • The discipleship of learning to have relaxing fun interactions without swearing or drinking alcohol. • Connecting with people and bonding as we realize we have so much in “common.”
The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit • Comfortably talking about Jesus and learning to communicate. • Small groups, before service coffee and tailgating. • Romans 12 1-2 “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.” (MSG).
The Fellowship of the Spirit prepares the way for the Ministry of the Spirit
Philippians 2 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

IF there is any Paraklete in Christ • Parakleteis the Holy Spirit. • John 14:16, 26, 15:26, 16:7 the Holy Spirit is called the Paraklete. • First three phrases are all about the Holy Spirit as are also “affection and mercy” which are fruits of the Holy Spirit.
