  1. On the production of neutrinos in the jet of Centaurus A Matías M. Reynoso (IFIMAR-CONICET, Argentina) María C. Medina (LUTH-OBSPM, France) Gustavo E. Romero (IAR-CONICET, Argentina)

  2. Plan • Basic scenario • Primary relativistic particles in the jet • Secondary relativistic particles in the jet • VHE neutrinos • Final comments

  3. Basic scenario Scheme:

  4. Basic scenario • Jet kinetic luminosity: • Magnetic field in the jet: Equipartition at jet base • Primary relativistic e’s and p’s Injected atzacc ; Injection: Power:

  5. Parameters used for Cen A

  6. Model output of photons:

  7. Primary relativistic e’s and p’s in the jet Acceleration rate: Cooling processes: e: synchrotron + adiabatic + IC p: synchrotron + adiabatic + pγ + pp

  8. Energy distributions of e’s and p’s • 1D steady transport equation:

  9. Secondary particles in the jet Atoyan & Dermer 2003 Injection of pions: Kelner et al 2006 Injection of muons: Lipari et al 2007

  10. Pion cooling and decay rates:

  11. High energy pions in the jet pions from pp intereactions pions from pγintereactions

  12. Neutrinos from pion & muon decays Lipari et al 2007

  13. Neutrino Emissivities ’sfrom pγinteractions ’s from ppinteractions

  14. Neutrino Flux at the Earth Taking into account oscillation effects:

  15. Neutrino Flux

  16. Final comments • If pp interactions at the inner jet can account for VHE γ-rayemission at the level detected, an accompanying neutrino flux is produced. Detection with KM3net could be possible. • Auger correlated UHECR events are to be produced elsewhere (not at the inner jet). Hence, other neutrino signal might be expected.
