Treasurer and Executive Director Report 2011 2011 income from BioOne ($45,228) surpassed the 2010 income ($38,566) JSTOR income ($5,042.91) also increased from 2010 levels. Investment accounts with Schwab have been put under Schwab management and are producing modest increases Our overall portfolio (Assets) is balanced but our Schwab funds are aggressive In 2011, TCS has a loss for the year, which can be explained by: increased cost of operations slight increase in JCB cost appointing an Executive Director loss created bythe Hawaii meeting. A case for a modern and professional web presence of the The Crustacean Society
New domain name: www.thecrustaceansociety.org This is the current view of the new TCS website as it appears using Firefox.
Navigation difficulties Many categories on landing page; these could be simplified (e.g. society business, meetings, publications, membership) Duplication and inconsistent or non-intuitive location of links or downloads (partly because of titles ‘resources’, ‘links’, ‘downloads’ which overlap greatly) Problem of upkeep, such as outdated news (e.g., a January 2011 deadline)
Proposed revamp of TCS website • Hire professional web designer to design and advise • Modernize look to appeal to wider and possibly younger audience • Reorganize and ‘de-clutter’ site to increase usefulness • Anticipated costs: XXX • Volunteers: Zen Faulkes, Kareen Schnabel
