P is for Planning Thoughts to Guide the Planning Process
Purpose • Choose Goals • What do you want participants to experience • Choose Learning Outcomes • What do you want participants to think about
Persona • Who are you going to be today? • This probably is the single most influential decision of the day – hey & sometimes it isn’t even a decision just the way the bed spat you out!
People • You have thought about who you are going to be now think about your audience. • Who are they? • What do they want? • What do they need? • What do they respond to? • What do you need to avoid?
Pieces • What games will satisfy the purpose & my persona? • There are lots of books & resources online to reference and many tell you what the games are good for.
Progression • What order should the games be presented? • How can they build on each other? • Make like you are Jerome Bruner or Lev Vygotsky & scaffold away.
Processing • How am I going to review the activities? • How will I best engage learning & still keep it fun? • www.reviewing.co.uk is a great source for ideas
Play • Always remember what this is all about. • Make sure that a majority of people participating are enjoying themselves – include yourself in this. • Also make sure that the play is (ap)propriate – you want everyone to walk away safe!
Post Session • Given that hindsight is 20-20 what would you change. • Make notes as soon as you finish as it will help shape the “wundersession” of the future!
Party • The kids are bound to have a blast & learn heaps into the bargain time to celebrate. • Life is short so recognize the good you are shaping.
