  1. We will break class into 3 parts. 1st part: Read silently ch. 1-4 of your novel2nd part: Work on study questions silently over your novel3rd part: work on study questions with partner help.

  2. Study questions for students that missed class • Look for the word attachment that matches your novel on downloaded documents. • Seniors : Study Guide BNW • Freshman: Chapter 1 LOF Questions

  3. Literature Terms 6 Weeks Test • Answer the questions on your scantron. • Once you have finished the test , read through chapter 5 of your novel. • On your own sheet of paper go back through chapter’s 1-5 and find 5 words from each chapter that you do not know the meaning of. Using context clues , attempt to define the word. After you have finished , then look up the word on your phone or dictionary and write the meaning. File the sheet or sheets in your vocabulary section of your folder. • Finish questions if you have not already done so. Questions chapters 1-4 BNW.

  4. Warm up 9 • Think of a famous person that is still alive. Try and connect yourself to that person by 6 degrees of separation. The connection must be with someone that has actually seen or have had live contact with that person at some point in time.

  5. TPO 9 • WE WILL INVESTIGATE THE CORRELATION OF CHARACTERS IN YOUR NOVEL AS WELL AS APPLY MAJOR LITERATURE TERMS TO YOUR NOVEL

  6. CHARACTER MAP • On a sheet of paper create a character map of all of the characters in your novel. Make sure to include a brief description of the character and how they are associated with each other. The box is for description of the character. The lines that connect each character is for the relationship each character has with another. Once you have completed the character map, go back and add bubbles and put in examples of literature elements and how they are connected to the characters. Elements that need to be added: • Personification • Symbolism • Conflict – internal and external • Irony • Propaganda • Figurative language • Sarcasm, imagery,simile, metaphor Make sure to add as much information as possible. Example: when describing a character give direct and indirect information on the character and use example from the novel.

  15. NOVEL :LOF • Diagramming sentence practice • READ CHAPTER 6 SILENTLY • WRITE A LETTER HOME • PROMPT: • Write a letter home relating an important conflict that has occurred on the island from the view point of Ralph,Jack, Piggy, Simon, or a littlun. • Work on chapter 6 study questions.

  16. Write a secret letter: BNW • Pick a character from the novel BNW and write a letter to one of the other characters in the novel. Describe a conflict or occurrence in the novel from chapters 1-6. Make sure to write from the perspective of the character and take on his/her character traits.
