  1. Hormonal Control of Digestion

  2. Gastrin = hormone produced by gastric glands in lower stomach wall. • Triggered by entry of food into the stomach -> and the stretching of the stomach Gastrin +

  3. Gastrin • Secreted from the stomach mucosa (lining) • Enters the bloodstream, back to stomach • Increases HCl & stomach churning Gastrin +

  4. Secretin = hormone produced in cells of the smallintestine • Triggered by HCl acid in the chyme • Hormone enters bloodstream and targets pancreas. • Output of sodium bicarbonate buffer.

  5. Secretin = hormone produced in cells of the small intestine • Specifically, release of buffer, into Small Intestine • This neutralizes the acidic chyme coming into the small intestine Secretin +

  6. Secretin = hormone produced in cells of the small intestine • ALSO, stimulates the liver to produce bile • BILE = emulsifies FAT

  7. CCK = hormone produced in cells of the small intestine • Triggered by partially digested protein & fat that enters the sm. intestine CCK CCK

  8. CCK = hormone produced in cells of the small intestine • Stimulates Gallbladder contraction to release bile • Stimulates Pancreas to release enzymes • Reduces appetite

  9. Enterogastrone • Hormone produced in small intestine • Triggered by acid - rich chyme filled with lipids. • Target cells in the stomach and blocks gastrin • Slows digestion b/c digestion of fats takes more time Entero-gastrone -

  10. Enterogastrone • Inhibits peristalsis and acid secretion of the stomach • Slows digestion in the stomach. Entero-gastrone -
