Menstrual Cycle Events • High FSH – Follicular growth, E2 secretion from granulosa • Moderate E2 – Positive FSH feedback • High E2 – Negative FSH feedback, endometrial proliferation, stimulation of LH surge • LH surge – ovulation, CL formation • CL – secretion E2 and P4, inhibits FSH, LH • No fertilization – CL degenerates, E2 and P4 drop, menstrual flow commences • Low E2 – cycle begins anew

Hormonal Control of Male Reproductive Function • LH – Influences Leydig cell T production and is influenced by T levels; ABP from Sertoli cells concentrates T levels to support meiosis • FSH – Controlled by levels of T, but also by inhibin production from Sertoli cells • Testosterone supports spermatogenesis, FSH required for spermiogenesis • LH – Assists in release of sperm from testis
