  1. Weds, 24th February 1 – 2pm Nike Lecture Theatre, Agriculture Building, University of Reading • Walker Institute External Seminar • “The Happy Planet Index • - an indicator of human well-being and environmental impact” • Nic Marks • New Economics Foundation Nic Marks is a Fellow of the New Economics Foundation and founder of the Centre for Well-being. He is a recognised expert in the field of well-being research and the use of well-being indicators in public policy environments. He was the lead author of NEF’s “Happy Planet Index” and is a qualified psychotherapist with a degree in Management Studies and a Masters in Operational Research. The Happy Planet Index assesses how well nations are faring by comparing their ultimate outcomes (the delivery of happy and long lives for their citizens) with their fundamental inputs (how much of the planet’s finite resources they use). Nic’s talk will describe the development of the index and discuss how it might be used to guide and influence international efforts to tackle poverty and protect the environment. All welcome, but please email j.genney@reading.ac.uk to book a place. www.walker-institute.ac.uk
