  6. Mining • Large mine in Magadi that extracts trona (mineral used to make glass). • The mineral forms around lake Magadi where water evaporate from the edge of the lake

  7. Livestock • E.g. cattle and camels reared in farms in the north eastern province. • Why do you think they don’t grow crops?

  8. Secondary • Where do you think most manufacturing would be? • Lots of manufacturers in Nairobi that produce textiles, foods and drinks. • What might the area have to attract this? • Good transport links including airport – population of 3 million

  9. Secondary • Cement works in coastal provinces. • Why do you think this is? What is cement make of?

  10. Tertiary • The rift valley has a strong tourist industry. • It has several national parks and lakes (e.g. Lake Turkana)

  11. Strong tourist industry around mount Kenya because it’s the second highest mountain in Africa and has a national park.

  12. There is a strong tourist industry in the coastal province because of its beaches e.g. Diani beach
