Nationalism The goal of unifying a country through the overall similarities of the people. Example: Serbs trying to break away from Austria-Hungry. Serbia through nationalism of their people should be its own independent country. Click Here To Return To The Main Menu
Militarism The building up of arms in Germany caused other nations in Europe to build up their own military to compete with the rival. All of the military build up put all country's attention on each other. Click Here To Return To The Main Menu
Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand The assassination of the arch duke lit the fuse of the build up of tension in Europe. After the assassination, Austria-hungry declared war on the Slavic people. Which then lead to other country's picking sides on either Austria-Hungry or the Slavic people. Alliance system Once Austria-Hungry Declared war on Serbia, Russia got involved and said it would be on the side of the Slavic people. France then was pulled in and declared war on both Germany and Austria-Hungry to back Russia. Britain got involved when Germany attacked France going through Belgium. Karl Marx Karl Marx started a Communist uprising in Prussia, right before the first World War. The king felt pressure from the new communist threat, and war was the only way to show how powerful the standing government was already. Click Here To Return To The Main Menu
Colonialism Germany also wanted the status of colonies plus the added economic expansion this would bring, but Germany only got small or poor colonies. King Wilhelm King Wilhelm built-up Germanys navy to compete with the British Royal fleet. He also built-up the country's industrial power causing a major completion between Britain and France. Click Here To Return To Main The Menu
Entente cordiale The Entente Cordiale, an agreement between Britain and France, resolved a number of longstanding colonial disputes, and established a diplomatic understanding between the two countries, which however stopped short of binding either to any military undertaking in support of the other.
