  2. Spinal Cord Injury Foundation, Inc is a non stock, non profit organization established 2003 for and by Persons with Spinal Cord Injuries, originally as a support group.

  3. What is accessibility? • The Universal Design: products, programs, services and the environment usable by all people to greatest extent possible without the need for adaptation or special design • Accessibility: states the obligation of State Parties to take appropriate measures to ensure access on physical environment, transportation, communication and information and services for persons with disabilities on an equal basis with others.

  4. Barriers • Physical barriers • Society • Culture • Attitude coming from persons with disabilities • Government policies

  5. Impact of an accessible environment • provide more revenues, • provide more employment opportunities, • address inclusive education, • reduce cost of welfare and subsidiaries, • and other concerns of not limited to persons with disabilities but the society as a whole.

Direct and indirect effect on other Articles of UNCRPD Article 19: Living independently in the community Provide access to basic services such as: • Health • Education • Work and Employment • Personal mobility • Access to justice • Participation in political and public life • Participation in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sports
