Slide for English presentations Report on Canadian Activities LSI-VC and SARCUBE Feb 2019 Paul Briand Yves Crevier
Topics • SAR ARD activities (Government and industry) • EO Data exploitation platform • Radarsat Datasets
Work Within GoC • Support the development of SAR ARD • Government-wide consultation to be conducted • All 3 SAR ARD products are suitable • Specific work done by CCMEO on Normalized Covariance Matrix • Evaluation of R1 and R2 archives for potential Analysis Ready Data • Assessment and Validation of SAR ARD products for different applications: • Agricultural applications • Wetland monitoring • Ecosystem monitoring • Sea Ice mapping and monitoring • Urban monitoring • Permafrost, lakes and coastal areas • Flood monitoring • Report users feedback (next year)
On going SAR ARD EvaluationMini-Cubes • Four ARD mini-cubes will be build for validation and performance assessment of the three NCM-Can scenarios • Time series analytics tool assessment and demo products • Begin with Radarsat-2 (2008-2017) • Then RCM
Environment Canada and Climate Change - Landscape Science and Technology, Geomatics – Data Cube status
Work With the Canadian Industry • Enabler and support roles • Development of solutions/systems enabling the use of SAR ARD product for Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. • Flood Management • Sea Ice mapping and monitoring • Normalized Radar Backscatter currently under evaluation in one projects • Development of EO data ingestion tools and front-end analysis algorithms • Planning product development around ARD for ODC and MTA (Analysis-Ready Data for Open Data Cube and MultiTemporal Analytics).
Activities Integrating ARD (Optical and SAR) and EO Data Cubes • Development of collaborative, virtual work environment for all federal partners and the communities : • Environment providing access to EO data + storage + HPC processing capabilities + analytical tools; • Interoperable environment, adopting international standard, and interfacing with external infrastructures; • Development of Thematic platform: • Thematic and/or applications focus: • Northern ecosystem; • Sustainable Land and Resource Development; • Crop land monitoring; • Flood management; • National, regional or local scale • Integration of other geospatial information and non-EO data • Tools for Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (Deep Learning)
Open SAR Datasets • Radarsat-1 – World-wide Archive (1995-2013) in Cnd stations • Status – open and free • Radarsat 2 – thematic archive • Status - to be negotiated with MDA • Includes long-term coherent time series acquired under the background missions • i.e. Polar, high-res Circum-tropic forest, IM, etc.
