Why Become a Teacher? Peter Battistini Joe Reagin He became a teacher because his Mother was a teacher, and he ended up loving the profession. • He became a teacher because he likes the learning environment. He loves to be able to help student learn new things.
How Long & Grade or Subject? Peter Battistini Joe Reagin Science, earth space Grades 9-12 • English, reading & writing. • Grades 9-12 but mostly 11 & 12
Traits of Effective Teacher? Peter Battistini Joe Reagin Make connections with the students, be organized and know the material you are teaching. • Know the subject you are teaching, have an organized classroom, make daily lesson plans and make sure the students know what they will be doing that day and when it is due.
Most Important Quality? Peter Battistini Joe Reagin Being patient and understanding, being able to see things from their point of view so you can help every student. • Communication skills, being able to connect with the student and knowing they understand what you’re asking of them.
Values, Beliefs or Philosophy? Peter Battistini Joe Reagin Making connections with the students, finding out if there are problems at home or other stuff is going on with them. Listen to them first then figure out how to help them learn the material. • Teaching is a profession, and they need to act professional. Teachers should always put the students before themselves.
Classroom & Teaching Strategies? Peter Battistini Joe Reagin Keep the students attention when lecturing over material. Use different things such as videos, books etc to make sure they are paying attention and not bored or distracted. • The physical layout of his room, his desk is at the back & the students tables all face the front of the room & board. That way he can see what everyone is doing during class & the students can all see the board.
Harris Academy • Harris Academy is located in Brownsburg, serving students from both Brownsburg and Avon High School • Harris is a self pace school, meaning every student can work as far ahead as they want. There aren’t any due dates until the last day of the semester
Harris Academy • Every student at Harris is treated individually, which is how every school should be. • It’s not a normal school setting, students don’t come to class & have to all do the same assignments, every student can work on what they need to get done, then move on to the next assignment. They can finish the whole class early if they try hard enough.

Description • For this assignment, I needed to find two teachers to interview. I had a set of questions to ask them and then I made a PowerPoint comparing their answers.

Rationale • Standard 9 applies to this assignment because I went to talk to two professionals about being a teacher. I learned from what they shared with me. Seeking professionals advice and learning from their experiences comes into play with this assignment as well.
