  1. American Revolution Simulation Episode #1

  2. October 17, 1774 Hear ye! Hear ye! We have gathered here at theTown Hall to discuss recent events and hear the news brought by a messenger from the colony of Pennsylvania. First, a meeting is being held in Philadelphia. Delegates from each of the 13 colonies have been sent to Philadelphia to address the growing concerns between the colonies and King George III. These delegates, calling themselves the “Continental Congress,” have selected a man by the name of Peyton Randolph to be their leader. They have agreed that each colony will have a vote, and they are working on a plan to respond to the coercive acts of the British.

  3. In the meantime, British General Thomas Gage will be arriving in Boston, 15 miles away, with a huge armed force. He is being made civil as well as military governor. Also, this very week, John Hancock and Joseph Warren, two of the leaders of the Sons of Liberty, are meeting in Concord to organize Patriots into minutemen militia. As a concerned citizen, you must be wondering how these events are going to affect you!!!

  4. Diary Entry #1 • Now write a diary entry in which you share how you feel about these events. • Consider the following questions before you begin: • What are your hopes and fears? • How do you feel about these events? • How might you be affected by these events (see slides 2 & 3)? • Make sure to make this diary seem like it was REALLY written by a colonist. • Personalize your entry to your character. • The date for your diary is October 17,1774.

  5. Rubric • Your diary entry is worth 6 pts. • Grading Criteria (2 pts. for each) • Historical Accuracy-Did you include correct historical information about the time period? Did you refer to real people, events, locations etc…? • Characterization-Did you include details about your character (feelings, occupation, personal life, etc…)? • Prompt-Did your diary entry fit the prompt? Is your diary entry believable and does it feel complete?
