Zones What are Zones? The concept of “Zones,” is a district-wide focus for all self-contained special education classrooms. Zones are four areas in the classroom in which specific daily activities occur. When do Zones take place? Zones take place throughout the entire school day however students are also pulled in small groups or individually to address their individualized needs more effectively.
Zone Areas What are the four zone areas? The four zone areas in the classroom are: • Daily Living: activities include self-help skills such as toileting, washing hands, and eating snack. Curriculum used in this zone is the Tuned Into Learning series. • Leisure Zone: activities in this zone include student choices such as toys, manipulative materials, and sensory materials. • Teaching Zone: activities in this zone include direct teaching time, fine motor activities (Handwriting Without Tears), theme-based activities, adapted books, etc… • Independent Zone: activities in this zone include fine motor (Handwriting Without Tears), theme-based activities, etc... The expectation in this zone is that students will complete specific tasks independently.
Connect Update • Connect is a district-wide website education community. It requires all staff to have a website presence. • How do I get to Connect and how do I sign up? • What will I see on the classroom Connect site?
