Ancient Egypt was an ancient civilization in eastern North Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River in what is now the modern nation of Egypt. The civilization began around 3150 BC with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt the first Pharaoh, and it developed over the next three millennia. The rule of the pharaohs officially ended in 31 BC when the early Roman Empire conquered Egypt and made it a province. Ancient Egypt

The ancient Egyptians thought of Egypt as being divided into 2 types of land, the black land and the red land. The black land was the fertile land on the banks of the Nile. Geography
The red land was the barren dessert that protected Egypt on to sides these desserts separated ancient Egypt from neighboring countries invading armies . Geography
The Nile is famous as the longest river in the world. The river got its name from the Greek word Neil's, which means valley. The Nile River is actually 6695 kilometers (4184 miles) long. Nile River
The ancient Egyptians enjoyed many natural barriers. There were deserts to the east and west of the Nile River, and mountains to the south.
Egypt still has many reminders of its ancient civilization. Some of the pyramids are over 4,500 years old. Pyramids
