Highlights and Heroes • Baseball produced some of its finest players of all time, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio • Despite the Great Depression, America hosted the 1932 Summer and Winter Olympic Games • In 1936, Jesse Owens, overcame prejudice at the “Nazi Olympics” and swept competition • Joe Louis defeated Max Smelting in boxing match that held symbolism of democracy vs. Nazism
