Steel Block Quotes • If receiving cut-plates from overseas, the local costs will be: • Reworking the plates if out-of-spec • uncertainty in quality control of overseas materials • Weld prep, welding, and machining on large capacity machines • Ivor guesses $79K to $113K on top of overseas material cost

Steel Block Quotes • Project Risks: • Overseas factories • PROS: Half the price compared to local • CONS: Limited oversight, accountability or certification of workers • CONS: Potential to delay shutdown schedule to deal with any problems discovered after shipping • CONS: Potential for additional rework costs • CONS: Potential for hidden safety problems • North American machine shops: • PROS: Easier to inspect the product before shipping and ask for rework • PROS: Local laws require certification compliance, therefore safer products • CONS: Maybe twice as expensive as overseas • Risk Mitigation: • Investigate track record of each overseas supplier (Andy)
