Tangent Ratio • A trigonometric ratio is a ratio of the lengths of two sides in a right triangle. • You will use the trigonometric ratio to find the measurement of a side or an acute angle in a right triangle • The ratio of the lengths of the legs in a right triangle is constant for a given angle measurement. The ratio is called the tangent of the angle.
Complementary Angles • In a right triangle, <A and <B are complementary so you can use the same diagram to find the tangent of <A and the tangent of <B.
Example 1 Find the tan D and tan F. tan D = ________ tan F = _________
Example 3: Find the height of the flagpole to the nearest foot.
Example 5: Use special right triangles to find the tangent of a 60o angle. 60o 2 1 30o
