What is networking? • In Information Technology, networking is the construction, design, and use of a network, including the physical (cabling, hub, bridge, switch, router, and so forth), the selection and use of telecommunication protocol and computer software for using and managing the network, and the establishment of operation policies and procedures related to the network. Definition: Techtarget • Networking professionals strive to solve business/ enterprise problems using networking resources

Overview of BITN @OUM • The course is concerned with the design, installation, implementation, configuration, operation and maintenance of small, medium and enterprise network, as well to understand the fundamental principles of network computing. • The skills required of an network technology specialist include LAN Switching Technologies; IP Routing Technologies; IP Services; Troubleshooting; WAN Technologies, and interpersonal communication skills, team skills and management.  • This degree has been designed to meet this need, and will produce graduates who are competent and knowledgeable in the discipline, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and who are able to critically analyse business problems and develop creative and innovative enterprise solutions.

Facts and Figures about BITN @OUM • BITN started with its first batch of students in Sept 2009 • A total of 132 learners had graduated thus far • Currently a total of 532 students enrolled locally in this program • There are currently 30 international students enrolled in BITN • Many part time tutors involved in conducting the program and there are 12 dedicated internal lecturers in overseeing the program • BIT received full accreditation from MQA in 2009 and it is recognised by JPA

  13. Duration • 4 ½ years (14 semesters) • Three intakes per year (Jan, May, Sept) • Those with credit transfer could save 1-4 semesters

Career Prospects • The programme has been designed to meet the country’s growing need of IT professionals • In this regard, the graduates of this programme could become: • Network Administrator • Network Engineer • Network Designer • Network Architecture Specialist • Network Field Engineer • Network Resident Engineer • Technical Engineer • Network Consultant

Entry Requirements Normal Entry Passed SPM/SPMV/MCE or equivalent with 1 credit in BM; AND Passed STPM/HSC or equivalent with at least 2 principals (CGPA 2.00); ORPassed a recognized Diploma; OR Passed a recognized Matriculation certificate. OR Flexible Entry Malaysian Citizen AND Be at least 21 years old on 1st of January (application year); AND Passed at least PMR or equivalent; AND Posess prior learning experience and / or knowledge relevant to the programme applied; AND Passed Flexible Entry Assessment;

  16. How to Apply? Complete the OUM application form at http://fastrac.oum.edu.my/ 2. Submit 2 sets of certified IC, all academic certificates and transcripts. 3. Processing fee of RM30.00 (Undergraduate programmes) or RM50.00 (Postgraduate programmes) will be debited to student account.
