  2. Targets and Goals • Acceptance rate 20-25 %. • PhD/faculty ratio 5 • PhD degrees 0.8 (per faculty per year)

  3. Admissions Timeline January 5th: All applications submitted January 16th: Information available on MAE website January 17th: Domestic application preparation. January 30th: The Committee reviews and finalizes admissions. Early February: Fellowship, Ra-ship and TA-ship recommendations Mid February: Domestic fellowship offers, February 27th: Financial support for international applicants: March 1st – 5th: Final Decisions.

  4. Ranking according to GPA (50%) +GRE (50%) formula as a rough cut; • Reject all foreign students, except when support is identified; • Look closely at each file for type of offer - allow flexibility in tailoring the offer; • Fulfill department obligations to new faculty first; • Maximize resource utilization - TAs (19900 funds) versus Fellows (Grad school + Dean Growth funds)

  18. A New Approach to Recruitment • Resources = 22 Resident GSRs + 28 TAs • Distribute resources evenly amongst faculty • Ask faculty to recruit top students who are assigned to them • Guarantee a maximum of two years for entering students • Keep 15 TA slots for advanced graduate students
