Epimers: Special Diastereomers, different with ONE chiral center
Sample Problem • Equal chance to attack both carbons from the top, vs. both carbons from the bottom, which means you’ll have 2 racemic pairs (50:50) • BUT THEN THESE RACEMIC MIXTURES aren’t 50:50 because of the methyl group in the ‘up’ position… meaning it won’t be a 25:25:25:25 mixture of all for, but a A:A:B:B ratio
Prochirality • Using our RIGHT HAND RULE, try to see if you can get a 1-2-3 with your right hand. The face where your thumb points to is the Re face! • Then with your left land, find 1-2-3, and you’ll find the Si face.
