  2. Cold Calling Control Zones? • What are they? • Why are they being set up? • Criteria for establishing a Cold Calling Control Zone? • Where have they been established in Wrexham? • Evaluation – what do the residents think • Future plans

What are they? • Defined areas/zones where the residents decide they don’t want Cold Callers. • Identified by street signs and door stickers • Householder information packs on dealing with Cold Callers • Community led – Neighbourhood Watch, Community Councils, Police, PCSO’s, Community Safety Partnership

  4. Why are they being set up? • Links between cold calling and criminal activities e.g. distraction burglary and bogus trading • Reduce crime and fear of crime • Help residents if they don’t want to deal with Cold Callers • Demand from residents

  5. Criteria • Office of Fair Trading Guidance • Evidence of justified problem e.g. spate of burglaries/unwanted cold callers • High proportion of vulnerable residents • There must be meaningful consultation • Periodic evaluation and review

  7. Evaluation • Carried out in February 2008 • Over 300 residents responded • 97% considered Cold Calling Control Zones worthwhile • 99% felt safer in their homes • 87% said the number of callers had reduced • 73% felt better equipped to deal with Cold Callers
