In the 1920’s there was more money around to tempt political leaders into dishonest acts of various sorts. • Corrupt law officials accept bribes to look the other way concerning alcohol.
The honest law officials, Izzy & Moe, were prohibition agents who made over 4000 arrests and seized 15 million gallons of illegal liquor.
Calvin Coolidge took over as president in 1923, after Harding’s death. • The good times of the 20’s, made Coolidge very popular. • His campaign slogan was “Keep Cool with Coolidge.”
Many Americans agreed with Coolidge that “the business of America is business.”
