MEETING ICT INDUSTRY NEEDS IN NEW TECHNOLOGY AREAS • Number of mobile devices and their users in the world is growing rapidly • Along with the increasing popularity of mobile devices, demand for applications increases • Deficiencies of specialists should be filled by higher education system by providing professionaldevelopers • Postgraduatestudies in this area, were created in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS),Lublin University of Technology (LUT).

THE NEW POSTGRADUATESTUDIES • ICS has created the new postgraduate studies - Mobile Applications Development • New postgraduate curricula have been developed during the project called „University of technology in • the future – adjusting the curricula to labor market and KBE” • The main target of this project is to • enrich teaching offer of LUT by adjusting it to current and future needs of Knowledge-Based Economy(KBE)

  4. Introduction of new courses • Process covered: • creating a new course program and specific syllabuses of particular subjects, • creating and sharing on ICS’s Moodle platform new e-learning materials preparing candidates and • enriching regular teaching, • preparing additional workbooks for students, • purchase of devices and building a new laboratory specifically for mobile devices development.

Conclusion • MAD students are strongly motivated to acquire new knowledge and practical skills in applicationdesign and development for mobile devices • Most of them link graduating with new opportunities atwork, including a change of employers or positions • The research has shown the need for postgraduate studies MAD
