Overall Goal: Shift mindsets and practice to support work-based learning as a primary vehicle by which all students make progress toward pathway student outcomes.
Mind Shift Work-based learning as activities Internships as the only capstone WBL experience A coherent sequence of student outcome drive experiences A broad range of higher-intensity WBL experiences
Mind Shift WBL as a nice-to-have Something for CTE teachers and students Worksite-based only WBL as an essential component for all pathway students Involves the entire pathway team of academic and technical teachers Multiple settings: workplace, school-based, and technology enhanced
Outcomes for the day • Gained understanding of the shared definition of work-based learning for Linked Learning, the types of student outcomes supported by “career practicum,” and the criteria for assessing quality “career practicum.” • Gained understanding of the value of work-based learning for students and the rationale for shifting mindsets and practice around work-based learning.
Outcomes for the day • Learned strategies for assessing and upgrading learning experiences consistent with a set of quality criteria and student learning outcomes for career practicum types of work-based learning. • Identified school and district supports that would make it possible to provide work-based learning experiences consistent with a set of quality criteria, focus on student learning outcomes for career practicum types of work-based learning and reach more students.
