Activity Two 9/05/11 Today was the day we went to a place in Qatar which studied Surgery and we were talked to about Surgery using robotics. First we were shown a PowerPoint on Surgeries past present and what we hope for surgeries future. We were also asked questions about this by Dr. Bader who was the one who presented the PowerPoint.
Surgical Simulations The next thing activity we were supposed to do was get in to two groups, girls and boy. When we split up there were machines and simulators on either side of the room the girls went to one side and the boys went to another. The first one I did was a game like simulation where I had to put pill like things into specific holes when I finished there was another one where I hade to cut a tissue like substance in only a specific area.
Surgical Practise After that was done the girls and boys witched sides. When I went to the other side of the room I leant what had to be done. What I had to do was move all the circular rubber material on the pegs and when I finished I had to move them all and out them in a silver basin. I was able to finish with time to spare thanks to my partner Yasmeen who helped me maneuver the pieces.
Divinchy Divinchy was the name of a robot (or surgeons assistant) invented to help a surgeon work on the patient more efficiently and relaxation also with less healing time. I think this invention was good because You can operate on a patient without having to stand for approximately two hours you also create less holes in the body which can allow the patient to be released from the hospital earlier. The whole class got a turn to use the divinchy and experiment on it. I was the second person to try and might I add I think it was a very good invention that can help many people around the world.
Report When we got back to school Mr. Smith reminded us on our task and told us to get to work. We spent the first half an hour of our time sorting everything out, I think it was a waste but at least everything was sorted. I started off being a journalist I wrote a report on our first capital city which was Cairo that was located in Egypt. The report was finished and handed in quickly I am proud to say I think I earned a lot of airmiles for my group.
Cycling and Biking After I finished my report I decided to become an athlete and start exercising. I first cycled 3.5 Km for my group which took me about fifteen minutes. When I finished that I went back up to check on the organizers and journalist to make sure everything was fine and it was. By the time I was heading down to do some rowing the bell rang and it was lunch, despite the fact that it was lunch I went down and supported my group by rowing for over fifteen minutes. I rowed approximately 2.5 km and I was tired. That is the end to my long busy day of surgical robotics and exercise I hope you had an enjoyable time reading.
