Purpose • To identify whether a green leaf is composed of one pigment or several. Also, to conduct a paper chromatography lab.
Materials • Chromatography Jar (with solvent) • Chromatography Paper • Spinach Leaf • Coin • Stapler • Ruler
Procedure • Follow the lab instructions. • The solvent in the jar is very potent, keep capped and open and close quickly. • Roll the coin pressing firmly but not too hard. • The bands may be difficult to see.
Feedback • Use Maple leaf (red and sugar) or Radicchio • Use several different species and compare • Look at Fall and Spring leaeves
