YOUR ACCESS ITEMS • Apartment Key • Gives access to apartment, room and mailbox • Access Card • Operates the elevator, stairwell and outside doors • Front doors are locked nights and weekends • If you forget your Access Card you can still use the elevator to get to the lobby • ID Card • Must be shown to security EVERY time you come in the building • It also serves as proof of your residency • Failure to Show ID 1st offense $5 charge 2nd offense $10 charge 3rd offense $15 charge 4th offense $20 charge and judicial hearing
DRINK RESPONSIBLY What is a drink? • One 12 oz. beer • One ounce of 80 Proof liquor or • One 4-5 oz glass of wine. BOTTOM LINE: Not all "drinks" are alike Moderate drinking means for females 1 drink a day, and for men, 2 drinks a day In order to stay in control you should not drink more than one drink per hour (http://www.brad21.org/what_is_a_drink.html)

SEXUAL HARASSMENT Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title IX. • Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitutes sexual harassment when submission to or rejection of this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual's employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual's work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment. • It is helpful for the victim to directly inform the harasser that the conduct is unwelcome and must stop. The victim should use any employer complaint mechanism or grievance system available.
YOUR CONDUCT • Violations of our housing policies will be forwarded to your home campus • Any violation to the Housing Code of Conduct will be placed in your permanent file • Failure to pay fines or replacement costs can result in a freeze on your campus account (i.e. transcripts, class registration, diplomas)

REMEMBER… • DO NOT TAMPER WITH THE SPRINKLER HEADS or any safety equipment in the building • Evacuate when you hear the fire alarm • The alarm system is designed to alarm only parts of the building effected. You may not hear an alarm on another floor. • We recommend renter’s insurance. The University is not responsible for the personal possessions of the residents.
FIRE SAFETY Grease fires are very common, so pay close attention to your food when cooking – DO NOT THROW WATER on a grease fire or an electrical fire. There are multiple fire extinguishers on every floor, which can be used in any type of fire. If you hear an alarm exit the building and wait for instructions from a res life staff member. Exit your apartment and close the door behind you. Assist disabled persons in your vicinity with exiting the building Exit the building by the nearest stairway. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS. Failure to exit is ILLEGAL. If you know the cause of the alarm report it to a UCDC staff member immediately. Assemble at the west sidewalk of 16th St between Rhode Island Ave. and M Street Wait for notification before returning to the building

HOUSEKEEPING Cleaning Schedule: Monday 4&5 Tuesday 6&7 Wednesday 8&9 Thursday 10&11 They clean kitchen floor, bathroom, vacuum living room YOU CLEAN THE REST All Residents are responsible for the condition of the apartment
RESIDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR… • Cleaning the kitchen, both counters and appliances • Cleaning their bedrooms. Vacuums are available in the lobby • Keeping common areas clean • Clearing off the bathroom counter and shower area of all items the day cleaning is scheduled Environmental Health and Safety inspections will occur throughout the term.

GUEST POLICY • All guests must check-in at the security desk and leave a valid government issued ID card with security. No student ID cards will be accepted.. • Anyone found checking in another resident’s guest will be served a judicial hearing and issued a $100 fine. • Guests must be accompanied at all times in the building, and may only enter the building with a UCDC resident. • Guests found in possession of a host’s keys, ID card, or Sonitrol fob will be banned from the Center. Residents will have guest privileges revoked and will be fined $100. • A maximum of two overnight guests per apartment per night. (Overnight is 1am to 6am) • Guests must return their guest pass to the Security Desk before exiting the Center. • Hosts are responsible for the actions of their guests at all times. • The UC Washington Center reserves the right to close the building to any non-resident or guest and to ask them to leave the building at any time. • Your guest privileges may be revoked for violating the Handbook.
