Lesson 3: Animals. By: Colton, Caleb, Hallie , and Jomi. Vertebrates. A vertebrate is an animal with segmented backbone. Vertebrates are grouped into seven different groups. Jawless fish-have a soft skeleton and gills. Bony fish- They have hard bones and breath through gills.

Vertebrates • A vertebrate is an animal with segmented backbone. • Vertebrates are grouped into seven different groups. • Jawless fish-have a soft skeleton and gills. • Bony fish- They have hard bones and breath through gills. • Cartilage- Cartilage is a tough silky fat or skin. • Amphibians- They have jaws, hard bones, and smooth skin, and breath from lungs.

  3. Vertebrates • Birds- They have jaws, feathers, bony skeletons and they breath through lungs. • Reptiles- Some live in water and some on land. They have jaws, scales, and hard bones, and breath though their lungs. • Mammals-They have jaws, hair, hard bony skeletons, and they breath through their lungs and feed their young with their mammas milk. Some mammals are tetrapods, or animals with four feet.

  4. Other things about vertebrates • Vertebrates have endoskeletons which are inner skeletons. Endoskeletons are made of cartilage.
