Austria The Republic of Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It borders both Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. Austria‘s provinces, capitals and their landmarks Vorarlberg: Capital: BregenzLandmark: Martinsturm (Martin Tower): It was built in the 13th century. Vorarlberg is the province we are from.
Tirol (Tyrol): Capital: Innsbruck Landmark: Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) There are 2738 golden shingles on the roof.
Salzburg: Capital: Salzburg Landmark: Festung Hohensalzburg The Hohensalzburg is 250 metres long and 150 metres broad. It‘s the biggest castle in Central Europe.
Kärnten (Carinthia): Capital: Klagenfurt Landmark: Lindwurm (Lindworm): It was built by Ulrich Vogelsang. It is a fountain.
Steiermark (Styria): Capital: Graz Landmark: Grazer Uhrturm (Graz Clocktower) The clocktower was built in the 13th century.
Oberösterreich (Upper Austria): Capital: Linz Landmark: Wallfahrtskirche Pöstlingberg: This church was built on the Pöstlingberg (mountain) in 1742. The Pöstlingberg is 539 metres high and a very popular destination for tourists.
Niederösterreich (Lower Austria): Capital: St. Pölten Landmark: Klangturm This tower was built with 1000 m² glass and 650 tons of steel.
Burgenland: Capital: Eisenstadt Landmark: Schloss Esterhazy This castle was built in the 13th century.
Wien (Vienna): Landmark: Stephansdom This is one of the most important gothic buildings in Austria. You can find it in the centre of Vienna.
