Carbon Management Aviation Air Quality Energy Management Coastal Management Homeland Security Disaster Management Ecological Forecasting Water Management Invasive Species Public Health Agricultural Efficiency NASA Applied Sciences Program • Objective • To expand and accelerate the economic and societal benefits from NASA Earth-Sun science information and technology research results
Earth-Sun Science System Components http://www.asd.ssc.nasa.gov/m2m
Accompanying Print Materials • Three booklets with high-level information on NASA-affiliated systems are in development/distribution • NASA Spacecraft Research Missions • Models & Assimilation Systems • Partner Organization Decision Support Tools • Earth-Sun Science System Components Chart: Current Version 4.85
Purpose • Create and evolve a dynamic inventory of science-quality NASA Earth-Sun Science Systems and Products resulting from science and technology Research and Development • Missions/Sensors/Measurements • Models/Analysis Systems/Assimilations Systems/Model Products • Science, Education, and Technology Infrastructure • Provide the NASA Applied Sciences Program and science community with reference information on NASA products • Provide candidate “Integrated Systems Solutions” for community of practice, including partner organizations with Decision Support Tools
Functions • Gather information on NASA affiliated spacecraft missions, sensors, measurements, models, analysis systems, assimilation systems, model products, and partner decision support tools into a database • Provide a user-friendly, web-based interface for the knowledge base • Evolve updated printed materials (chart, booklets) based on online information • Dynamically update the database and the interface in order to maintain data integrity
Data Gathering • Key sources of information on NASA research results • Primary source for remote sensing systems, sensors, and products is the Internet • Primary source for models is model owners/developers • Secondary source is teleconferences with researchers • Tertiary sources include books, presentations, and periodicals • Initial information gathering • Affiliated NASA researchers (~20,000 !) may access a web page allowing them to submit revisions to the database • Revisions are reviewed prior to entry into the baselined database
Knowledge Base Website • Graphical Interface to the SQL Server Database • Each icon represents a remote sensing system • Clicking on a mission icon will… • Display basic information about the mission • Display a hypertext listing of the different sensors affiliated with that mission • Clicking on a sensor will… • Display basic information about the sensor • Display a hypertext listing of the different products affiliated with that sensor • Clicking on a data product will… • Display basic information about the product
