  1. Humility

  2. Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross . Phil 2:1-8

  3. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus • Christ was concealing His glory on earth Humbling Himself • did not consider it robbery to be equal with God: True God did not “rob” any Glory. But, He declined His Glory for Himself • A) Humbled Himself: Forget Himself and His Glory. Can you forget yourself. He came in a form less than any newborn in a stable, Bethlehem, • B) took upon him the form of a servant: can you take a form less than yours, serving others, belittle yourself. “ be a son among brothers, brother among your sons…Pope Shenouda” • C) became obedient unto death: Died less than any human, the death of the cross. • D) God also has highly exalted him

  4. Christ’s Mind=HumilityOur Mind=Pride

  5. Phi 2:5-11 Let this mind bein you, which was also inChrist Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also has highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  6. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God Phil2:6 Christ is a Glorified Lord Humbled I and the Father are one

  7. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God Phil2:6 Humbled Incarnation

  8. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.(Phil2:8) . Humbled Cross

  9. Christ’s Mind= Humility • Can we think “humility” like Christ, willing to value others better than myself

  10. The value of Humility Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. Mat 11:28

  11. The value of Humility • Give You REST: We carry His Humility and He Gives Us Rest. ( exchange) • Pride is a common depressing sickness, humility gives comfort. • Christ teaches to struggle to sit last while we all struggle to sit on the first seat. • Humility= easy yoke to carry • “The humble wins all wars”. St. Makarios • St. Makarios had an encounter with the devil, the devil told him that the only thing he can win with is humility

  12. 1-Comfort/relief A) Relief from Devils wars: “The humble will be saved” St. Makarios B) Spiritual Comfort/Peace He that is surety for a stranger shall smart, forit: and he that has suretiship is sure ( Proverbes11:15) The humble always smiles””

  13. 2- Grace: be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble (1Pet5:5) Grace before God ” Behold the handmaid of the Lord…… Hail thouthatare highly favored Blessing in the eyes of people: The fear of the LORDis the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility(prov.15:33) “Whoever runs from honor receives it and who is seeking honor it escapes from him”

  14. 2- gives grace to the humble • Grace is given to the Humble: St Mary ;In spite of her many virtues, she was given Grace because of her Humility. • Grace in eyes of God; Humility of St. Mary made our Lord to perform the miracle • Blessing in the eyes of people:the humble is attractive to all

  15. 3- wisdom When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. Prov 11:2 King solomon: 4Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, "Ask! What shall I give you?" 6And Solomon said: "You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.

  16. 8And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted.9Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?" 10The speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11Then God said to him: "Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12behold, I have done according to your words; see,Ihave given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. 13And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days.

  17. 4- Repentance: Repentance Humility The Tax collector’s prayer: Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, "God, I thank You that I am not like other men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' 13And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, "God, be merciful to me a sinner!' 14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

  18. Value of HumilityRepentance • The humble can repent easily • With no repentance , there is no entrance to heavens • Blessed are the poor in Spirit. They gain the kingdom • “Lukewarm “ is a common sickness among church goers. Being afar can make a person repent.

  19. The Sinful woman Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee's house, and sat down to eat. 37And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, 38and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. 4839Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, "This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner." 40And Jesus answered and said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you."

  20. So he said, "Teacher, say it." 41There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?" 43Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have rightly judged." 44Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little." ."Then He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." 49And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?" 50Then He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace

  21. 5-Spiritual Growth Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish. Jn 2 6-Discipleship

  22. Spiritual Growth • Humble person who is repenting is also going to spiritually grow. • Feeling little and needs to know more is the person who is willing to learn and grow. • The person who feels content with his level loses the ability to grow

  23. 6-Discipleship Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; 28for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.

  24. Discipleship • When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately • Ready to learn. The Humble is a person who is always under the feet of his teacher. Even ready to learn from people may be even less than him.

  25. Peace Faith Humility 7- Faith Canaanite woman: LK 6 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed." 23But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us." 24But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 25Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" 26But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs." 27And she said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."28Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

  26. The humble has strong faith and the faithful is humble. • The Canaanite woman was praised for her faith although she showed humility.

  27. The Centurion; LK 7 Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum. 2And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. 3So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. 4And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving, 5"for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue." 6Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, "Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. 7Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, "Go,' and he goes; and to another, "Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, "Do this,' and he does it." 9When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, "I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!" 10And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.

  28. Forgiveness and Covering up +Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the LORD's anger. Zeph. 2:3 +Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. Lk 7:47 King Ahab: So it was, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning. And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29"See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days. In the days of his son I will bring the calamity on his house

  29. 9- God’s Response And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terror fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. 8Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; for my vigor was turned to frailty in me, and I retained no strength. 9Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground. 10Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11And he said to me, "O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you." While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling. 12Then he said to me, "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. (Dan 10)

  30. 10- Kingdom of God Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt 5:3 He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly. Luke 1:52 The Prayer of the humble {Joshua son of Serach}
