What is Insulation? • in·su·la·tionPronunciation: "in(t)-s&-'lA-sh&nFunction: noun1: the action of separating a conductor from conducting bodies by means of nonconductors so as to prevent transfer of electricity, heat, or sound; also: the state resulting from such action
Solar Heating - Passive • Using existing conditions of the environment as efficiently as possible, to heat homes radiantly, while minimizing radiant energy loss • Heating is done without the use of additional pumps, mechanisms, etc.
Objective of Solar Insulation • To maximize the absorption the heat produced by the sun in winter to warm living areas • To prevent heat loss back to the environment, thus increase efficiency of Solar heat • To reflect heat during the summer and increase the efficiency of air conditioners
Methods Used • Solar Control Film • Insulation Film
Other Methods • Berm Insulation • Greenhouse curtains
Recap • Radiant heat is preserved in winter • Unwanted heat is reflected in summer • Sources: • http://www.attra.org/attra-pub/solar-gh.html#Insulation • http://www.solaroofgarden.com • http://www.appliedwindowfilms.co.uk/solar.htm#Solar%20Control%20Film • http://www.dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=insulation • http://www.science.duq.edu/esm/Course_Material/ESM551/Notes_Only/energy/GIFS/solar4.html
