  2. Poland is a beautiful country situated in very heart of Europe. Its population is estimated at 38million, total area is 312,685sq.km. Poland became part of EU (2004), furthermore became part of theSchengen Area (2007). The official currency is Polish Zloty. Poland is on Central European Time.

  3. Cracow is a place with a historical past, dating as far back as a millennium, a city of kings, national heroes and artists. It is the seat of Poland’s oldest university. At present, Cracow boasts over twenty institutions of higher learning. It is a city of more than a hundred churches and scores of other priceless relics of history. It also is Poland’s second largest agglomeration in terms of area and population after Warsaw. Cracow is featured on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 2000 it was designated as one of European Capitals of Culture, in 2007 Orbitz, an American internet agency, proclaimed Cracow the most fashionable city of the world.

  15. WAWEL: Cracow’s splendid hilltop castle. UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. One of Poland’s national symbols. Wawel is dominated by two immense edifices: the Gothic Royal Cathedral with royal tombs and famous Sigismund Bell Tower and the Castle – former Royal Residence with the arcaded courtyard of rare beauty.

  16. RYNEK GŁÓWNY: world’s largest medieval square. Home to the Mariacka Basilica (St-Mary’s Church) and Sukiennice (Cloth Hall).

  17. The Cloth Hall – a rare example of a medieval structure that has for centuries served as a commercial centre. The Cloth Hall - Sukiennice Nowadays an art gallery is located on the upper floor while the lower covered arcades are taken up by numerous stalls selling souvenirs and craft works.

  18. The huge gothic St. Mary's Basilica is dominated on the north side of the Main Square. Every hour from its taller tower we can hear a trumpeter playing the famous Cracow bugle-call. St. Mary’sBasilica Inside the church we can admire the high altar by Wit Stwosz (Veit Stoss) – the largest gothic altar in Europe.

  20. The Barbican it’s a part of city fortifications one of the very few surviving structures of its kind in Europe. The Barbican Built in 1489-1499 as an additional protection of the Florian Gate.

  22. Cracow prides itself on the oldest university in Poland. It's called the Jagiellonian University and was founded by King Casimir the Grea in 1364. Jagiellonian University The old university district is one of the must-see spots in the Old Town - you will have a chance to visit the picturesque courtyard of Collegium Maius and see the statue of Nicolas Copernicus, the famous astronomer.

There are four mounds in Cracow, and in this respect the city holds the Polish record. The Mounds The oldest are the Krakus and Wanda Mounds, younger and most popular is the Tadeusz Kościuszko Mound, and the youngest and largest – the Józef Piłsudski Mound.

  29. The Cracow Opera’s repertoire includes the world’s and Poland’s greatest operatic works, ballet performances, operettas, and music shows directed at young audiences. It stages about 200 performances a year, with 98% of seats occupied. The Cracow Opera During the Summer Festival, the Cracow Opera uses an outdoor stage located in the Arcaded Courtyard of the Wawel Castle, which has witnessed the spectacular performances.

  30. A symphony orchestra can be traced here to 1909, but the Cracow Philharmonic as it is today was born in 1945. Cracow Philharmonic The concert hall contains a magnificent organ by Johannes Klais-Orgelbau Bonn which was installed in 1996 to replace an older organ destroyed by fire in 1991.

  31. Founded in 1946, JU Museum ofPharmacy is the greatest in Poland and one of few similarmuseums in the world. Museum of Pharmacy Furnishedwith original pharmacy equipment,it can boast an extremely richcollection amounting to 20 000exhibits medicinal herbs. Themuseum has its own library.

  32. Free time If you are in Cracow you should sit down in one of the restaurants’ gardens to relax and feel the unique atmosphere of the place. Cracow is an eating, drinking and partying paradise - the Old Town is tightly packed with pubs, bars and cafes (300 of them). Recently, also the Jewish district of Kazimierz has become a lively place, especially during the evening.
