Why Women’s Stories? • Quality Ambition – Person Centeredness • To give women a voice within Maternity Services • Look beneath the surface experience • Time to actively listen
Why Women’s Stories? • To identify women that need extra help to deal with their feelings or psychological trauma • For Midwives to learn and reflect • To identify themes within the stories and use these to drive change
Effective Practitioner • The team examined and evaluated the website together. • Specific analysis of the tools and learning activities around person centeredness, communication • The use of the Effective Practitioner website allowed the team to examine various tools used to collect women’s stories • Tools used - You told us, Emotional Touchpoints, How do you feel, Feedback Evaluation
Activities • Study Session – Communication Skills • To gain confidence for the project team when dealing with conflict situations or conversations that become difficult for the woman or the midwife • Channels of referral for women • Further examination of the Patient Story tools within Effective Practitioner
Stories • Project Midwives are using a variety of tools • All areas of Maternity including the Community • Excellent response from Women • Interest generated within the Service • Challenges – Privacy and Time • Emotionally challenging for the Midwives
Moving On • Examine themes from the stories • Formulate actions to drive quality • Interest from Midwives to expand the group • Debriefing skills • Feedback to all within the Healthcare Team
