Computer Systems Peter Maher
Presentation aims to… • Explain some Computer Systems – aka 3 letter ac. • Why do we need a GIS system? And how we did it. • Look at the system itself. • Advantages of the system. • Holdings….. • AIM. • How Computer systems fit together. (Conceptually)
Why we need a GIS system??….. • As TB is a contagious disease. (Wildlife) • Important to know full extent of Epidemiological unit/Herd/Holding. • Important to have contiguous herds and their cattle populations. • Important to understand geographical features and habitat e.g. land use and type, roadways, commonage, waterways, forestry. • Also to see how herds ‘fit’ into the landscape/geography • Represent/present maps in a coherent and user friendly way
CCS iMAP SPS iFORIS Customer Functionality Spatial Functionality How our Current Systems Fit Together(3/4 letter acronyms) AHCS (Animal Health) AIM (Animal ID & Move) Animal Data Spatial Data Customer Data Corporate Database
Spatial Location….. • Used to pinpoint exact location of farmhouse or premises. • Can be used to create “spatial layer”
Y Axis X = 0, Y = 0. X Axis
Holding…… • Farm Shape • Farm Shape is broken down into fragments. • Fragments broken down into parcels. • Parcels are roughly equivalent to fields. “herdnumber” is allocated to the “keeper” of a “herd” on a “holding” for the purposes of administering the TB and Brucellosis Eradication = Holding Number. CMMS/AIM • Requirement under 1760/2000 for a Central Database. • We use that database: - • To generate profiles for TB test . • To ensure that all animals in herd are tested in compliance of 64/432. • To trace animals in the event of disease outbreaks.
