What is Welding? • Combining materials together by melting • Can use added material (filler) or not • Mostly Metal, but can be Plastic
Types of Welding • Welding done onsite is a “Field Weld”
Gas & Arc Welding • Gas • Use Burning Gas to Provide Heat • Oxygen & a Combustible Gas • Usually Acetylene • Can be MAPP or Propane • Arc • Use Electric Arc to Provide Heat • Shielded Metal Arc (Stick) • Metal Inert Gas (MIG) • Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG)
Arc Welding Stick MIG TIG
Resistance Welding • Use Electric Current to Provide Heat • Pressure to fuse materials together • No filler usually
Resistance Welding • Spot • Seam • Flash
Reference Line Leader Tail Weld Symbol
Weld Types • Fillet • Tee or Corner Joints • Grove • Butt or Edge Joints • Plug / Slot, Spot, Seam • Lap Joint • Surface • No Joint • Used to Add Material
AutoCAD Welding Symbols • Welding Blocks • Use a Lisp Routine • Automated weld symbols, by Chris Crain • Cadalyst.com
