Tango It takes TWO to tango! • The tangooriginated in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Its was influenced by Spanish and African culture. • There are many different styles of the tango: The Argentine Tango, the Finnish Tango and the Tango Cayengue. • It is danced in an open or close embrace and the dancers lead and follow one another.
Cha Cha Cha • The Cha Cha Cha is Cuban in origin. • It is often danced to authentic Cuban music, Latin pop or rock. • The inventor of the musical genre is Enrique Jorrin, a composer and violinist. (in the 1950’s) • There is a lot of hip movement and bending.
Cueca • The Cueca is the national dance of Chile since 1979. • It’s considered to have Spanish and African influence. • The clothing worn while dancing the Cueca is very traditional Chilean clothing.
Fandango • The Fandango is a folk dance popular in Spain and Portugal. • Guitars, castanets and hand clapping are played in the Fandango. There are many variations of the dance in Spanish-speaking countries. • The metre of the Fandango is 3/8 time,
Flamenco • The Flamenco is a dance and style of music that began is Spain. Flamenco is so popular it had a Golden Age (1869-1910) and you can become a flamencologist. • Many dancers are self-taught. The Flamenco is known for its emotional intensity, pride and the use of arm movement and foot-stomping to the rhythm.
Salsa • The Salsa’s origins lie in Cuba. It is a partner dance, but can be done solo. • Casino is the appropriate name for the Cuban Salsa, and is known by that in many Latin American countries. • Salsa is a Spanish word for “sauce,” and it people associate it with a spicy flavor. SPICY DANCING!!
