Neptune Pluto The Outer Planets • Isthe ninth planet from the Sun. • It is the smallest planet & has been classified as a “dwarf planet”. • Pluto is the most contrasty body in the Solar System. • Finally, Pluto’s composition is unknown. • Neptune is the eight planet from the Sun. • It is composed of various ices and rock with about 15% hydrogen & a little helium. • Neptune’s blue color is the result of absorption of red light by methane in the atmosphere. • Finally, it’s winds are the fastest in the solar system reaching 2000 km/hour. Jupiter Saturn Uranus • Is the sixth planet from the Sun. • It is the second larges planet. • Also, Saturn in a gas giant made up mostly of hydrogen & helium. • It has the most extraordinary rings. • Finally, Saturn has the lowest density of all planets. • Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. • It was the first planet discovered. • It’s axis is almost parallel to the ecliptic. • Also, Uranus is hotter at its equator than at its poles. • Finally, it was seen many times but ignored as simple another star. • Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. • It is by far the largest planet. • Also, Jupiter is more than twice as massive as all the other planets combined. • It has 4 large moons that motion back & forth around it.
