For example, in the eighth paragraph he mentions the word “shattered” and in the eleventh “fractured,” which shows how broken and wearied the characters are due to the constant fighting.Also, the smoky haze from chimneys, gunfire and the soot from collapsed buildings makes the mood seem very depressing.
