  2. What has changed in order to recertify my CMP?

CMP Recertification Standards Prior to 2010 Deadline of November 15 $200 fee Minimum of 60 points earned over the previous 5 years Work Experience: Maximum of 50 points (minimum 12) Continuing Education: Maximum of 60 points (min. 5) Membership: Maximum of 10 points Professional Contributions: Maximum of 40 points

  4. Beginning in 2011

  5. Deadlines & Fees Standard Recertification Fee ($200) – On or before October 14 Late Recertification Fee ($250) – October 15 – December 31 Lapsed Recertifcation Fee ($350) – After December 31 Standard Deadline is 30 days earlier than before!! No changes to Standard or Late fees.

  6. Application Only 2 sections to complete, rather than 4 Professional Experience Education & Industry Support No points system to calculate Ethics Statement included Recertification Guidelines

  7. Section 1: Professional Experience in the Industry Option 1: Professional Experience Must have been employed, full-time or part-time, in the industry for a minimum of 36 of the last 60 months. Option 2: Professional Experience in Academia May be employed as a full-time or part-time instructor of meeting, event, exhibition or hospitality/tourism management at an educational institution or university program, for a minimum of 36 of the last 60 months.

Section 1: Professional Experience in the Industry Focus is now on months, not years so calculations are easier - minimum of 36 of the last 60 months Experience must be completed at the time the application is submitted No longer criteria for time spent in Meetings Management Professional resume must be included with application

  9. Section 2: Education and Industry Support Activities Option 1: Formal Education Option 2: Continuing Education Option 3: Continuing Education & Industry Support Activities

  10. Option 1: Formal Education Earn a Bachelor’s Degree or higher Within past five (5) years Any curriculum Submit documentation of formal education – transcript, a copy of the diploma or certificate of completion Completion of a certificate program does not count as formal education

Option 2: Continuing Education 25 clock hours of industry-related continuing education Within the past five (5) years Documentation required Internal training may qualify if it relates to the CMP Blueprint and a description and learner outcomes are provided Networking and meal functions without education do not qualify as continuing education Exhibit Hours do not qualify

  12. Clock Hours vs. CEUs Clock hours are the direct amount of time spent in the classroom/session 1 hour in session = 1 clock hour CEUs can be converted to clock hours by multiplying by 10 .5 CEUs * 10 = 5 clock hours

  13. Option 3: Continuing Education & Industry Support Activities 15 clock hours of industry-related continuing education Participate in 3 defined activities which contribute to the industry or provide professional development Within the past five (5) years Documentation required

  14. What are Defined Activities? Membership in Industry Organizations Member of an Industry Organization Board of Directors Member of an Industry Organization Committee Authoring Published Industry Related Articles Speaking at Industry Programs and Meetings CMP Study Group Leader CMP Examination Proctor CMP Booth Staffing *Can earn multiple credits in any one activity

  15. How do I document my education? Proof of attendance (registration receipt) On-site program Course handouts Copy of badge from event Print-out from organization’s education tracking page

  16. How do I document my activities? Membership card or membership directory listing Letter from organization / board / committee chair Copy of the board/committee/task force roster Copies of published articles Listing in event schedule or program Official printout or listing on the CMP Study Group Leader page of the CIC website Official letter/email from CIC

  17. Some helpful hints! Keep CIC informed of your current contact information so they can update the mailing address and send renewal information to you. Start a CMP file – keep copies of needed documentation Memberships need not to be current, just within 5 years Add educational component to industry group happy hours and networking events.

  18. Why the changes??? Tie in more closely to the CMP Blueprint and updated CMP application More emphasis on educational requirements and industry involvement International friendly Simplify the paperwork Require proof of actual participation

  19. Emeritus CMP Status At least 59.5 years of age Retired and no longer working full-time in the meetings industry Active CMP in good standing for 10+ years 300-500 word essay on the CMP certification and why it is important to retain the designation
