Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) • Came into operation on 1st October 2008 • Combines the best aspects of the Centre for Excellence in Leadership (CEL) and Quality Improvement Agency (QIA) • Focus is on learners and on developing excellent and sustainable further education and skills provision across the sector. • Leadership development will underpin and form an important part of the organisation’s strategic role in the sector • The National Improvement Strategy – consultation on revision current happening
What is PRD? • Collaborative, self-sustaining quality improvement activity • Both an assessment and an improvement function • A small number of organisations, (typically 4-6) work together reviewing each others’ self assessment and quality improvement processes • Shared responsibility for improvement, involving joint action planning and support in the sharing and transfer of good practice • Investigative but not an inspection

Review Monitoring and Evaluation • Feedback to the host organisation • Report on the review activities • Consideration of recommendations at appropriate level within host organisation • Design and action the development/improvement plan based on the output of the review • Joint activities to develop each others organisations • Review/add to impact measures Feedback and Reporting Development

Programme activties Year One: Building the Programme • By July 2008 there were 129 active PRD groups consisting of 591 providers from across the further education system • Series of events • National conference Year Two: Developing – putting the “D” in PRD • 10 sector specialist PRD Advisors • 165 groups, made up of over 750organisations • 10 Offender Learning Groups • Series of events – Sustainability, Rigour, Learn and Share • Focused interviews and case studies • Collecting, collating and share the benefits of PRD best practice across the programme and sector via the Resource Centre http://excellence.qia.org.uk/page.aspx?o=resourcecentre
Programme activties Plans for future: PRD into business as usual • Provide evidence to determine PRD’s place within a self regulating FE system • Evidence of the benefits and impact of PRD on individual providers • Providers reflecting themselves on the benefits and impacts of PRD • Creating a legacy of PRD in terms of commitment, tools and information which can enable the sector to continue to use/improve PRD for quality improvement after the life of SfE programme
