Chicago Transit App - Greater Good Studios • They are creating a new mobile app for navigating public transit. • Philosophy of bringing all of the different types of transit apps into one. • “Kickstarter” - crowdsourced fundraising
Three ways it is different • They are creating a new mobile app for navigating public transit. 1. It integrates bus and train. 2. It uses real-time arrival data (where available). 3. It’s designed and influenced by people who use it • New iPhone/iPad will not have Google maps • Apple Maps will have driving & walking – NO TRANSIT • Who wants to use 20 different platforms • One platform is better if it is well designed
What will this app do? • Focus on many aspects of trip as opposed to plain schedule data. • It could let you pay your fare without taking out your wallet. • It could tell you whether you'll get a seat on this bus, or to wait for a seat on the next one • It could wake you up right before your stop • It could know you were traveling with a stroller or mobility device, and give you a route with elevators at every stop • It could keep track of how much gas you've saved, so you could justify those new shoes! • The mother of all transit apps, all rolled into one.
What will this app do cont’d • It could integrate with weather, and remind you to bring an umbrella • It could include a coffee shop pit stop on every morning trip • It could sync with your calendar, know you had an appointment, then work backwards to tell you when to leave the house • It could give you great transit-related excuses whenever you were running late • It could help you find locations for bike parking/rentals, car-sharing, taxis • You could send complaints to transit, so they could improve access • These are just a handful of ideas that could be a part of the app • Participate!
