Leonardo Da Vinci • His painting, the “Mona Lisa” is the most famous painting in history • Respected for it’s life-like appearance and use of shading • Always appearance to be looking directly at you • Also painted the “Last Supper” • He used linear perspective to give the painting realistic depth.

  4. Michelangelo • Finished first sculpture at age 15 • Did not want to be a painter, only wanted to sculpt • Still one of the best painters in history • First true superstar artist • Painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel • Took 4 years to finish • Forced to paint it

  6. Italian Renaissance • In the end of the 14th century AD a bunch of italian thinkers declared that they were in a new age • This was the birth period known as the Renaissance • The italians think a new age had happened between the 14th century and the 17th century.

Northern Artistic Renaissance • Artists of northern Europe had a different approach in portraying realistic artwork • European artists painted illustrations for books and wooden panels for altarpieces • The artist, Jan Van Eyck, was one of the first to perfect the technique of oil painting • He could create striking realism in fine details with oil painting • Unlike the italians, he did not use perspective in his paintings • Albrecht Durer was very affected by the italians way of using perspective • Took 2 trips to italy to learn about perspective art Jared
