Italian Renaissance • In the end of the 14th century AD a bunch of italian thinkers declared that they were in a new age • This was the birth period known as the Renaissance • The italians think a new age had happened between the 14th century and the 17th century.
Northern Artistic Renaissance • Artists of northern Europe had a different approach in portraying realistic artwork • European artists painted illustrations for books and wooden panels for altarpieces • The artist, Jan Van Eyck, was one of the first to perfect the technique of oil painting • He could create striking realism in fine details with oil painting • Unlike the italians, he did not use perspective in his paintings • Albrecht Durer was very affected by the italians way of using perspective • Took 2 trips to italy to learn about perspective art Jared
