Input Data Summary • Simulated Imagery • Simulated operations • Simulated time variable sky • Atmosphere/Optics model • CFHT Imagery • Camera design • Focal plane layout • Electronic properties • Calibration Products
Input Data: Simulated Imagery • Simulated Observations • 10 years – ~3 Million observations • Historical weather and downtime • Filter and location chosen to satisfy science programs • Realistic slew, exposure, and shutter times
Input Data: Simulated Imagery • Simulated Sky • Galactic structure model from Juric et al. (2008), Amores & Lepine (2005), Schlegel, Finkbeiner, & Davis (1998) • Solar system model from Grav et al. (2010) • Extragalactic positions from White with semi-analytic properties from De Lucia • Variable AGN/QSOs, Cepheids, RRLy, eclipsing binaries, AM CVn, microlensing events, M-dwarf flare
Input Data: Simulated Imagery • Atmosphere/Optics Model • 6 moving screen model normalized to seeing from OpSim with historical wind velocity • Kolmogorov spectrum cloud model informed by historical cloud coverage data • Full optical system model
CFHT Data • ~19,000 MegaCam images • 23 May 2003 to 16 Feb 2008 • 36 two amp CCDs in rectangular grid • 1deg x 1deg fov • u*,g,r,i,z filters (note the u* is broader than the LSST u) • Bias Frames • Flat Frames • Fringe Frames for i and z images.
Camera and Electronics Model • Focal plane layout • 189 imaging chips: 2000x2072 pix • 4 wavefront sensors • 21 3x3 rafts • Electronic design • 8x2 Amps per chip • 509x1000 pix per amp
Calibration Products • 10 realizations with 2 exposures per realization • Reduced using DM stack to produce master calibration frames. • Bias frames • zero length exposures • Dark frames • 180 sec exposures with shutter closed • Per filter flats • Analytic fit to vignetting function sampled to place photons.
