Speciality training –Specialist List • No. of specialties recognised by GDC • SCD- Autumn of 2008?? • Eligibility to be on Specialist List: • Specialist qualifications awarded outside UK but recognised by GDC as equivalent to acquisition of a CCST • Knowledge and experience equivalent to that which would be required on training leading to a CCST
Specialist List – Transitional arrangements • Transitional arrangements apply for a specified period after the List is established. • Those eligible to apply: • Existing consultants • Those who can satisfy GDC that they have the relevant qualifications, training or experience.
Specialist List – Eligibility on the basis of experience Need to satisfy GDC that : ‘ ….they have a level of experience that is equivalent to that which they might have reasonably expected to have attained, if they had a CCST in SCD ’
Specialist List – Transitional arrangements • In assessing experience, the critical factor will be acquisition of expertise • Evidence of such expertise will be, for example: • Scope of practice • Source and type of referrals • Professional publications • Involvement in CPE • Standing in the Dental Community
Mediation CriteriaSection A - Essential criteria • Consultant contract or • Relevant PG qualification • MSc, MSCD, DSCD, other relevant qualifications • Membership of specialist society (at least 12 months)
Mediation Criteria Section B-Level of expertise • 5+ years experience (or WTE ) in SCD (JACSCD training + 2years) • Sample of referrals (20/2 years) • Clinical experience (comprehensive) • Different treatment modalities (eg Sedation/GA) • Different treatment settings/shared care/second opinions/advice • Clinical governance • Lead role in developing SCD • Committee representation nationally
Mediation Criteria Section B-Level of expertise (Cont) • Teaching and training • Designing curricula, delivering learning, examiner, delivering CPD • Research and development- poster presentations, peer-reviewed publications, national guidelines, supervision of research in SCD • Management • Registration/CPD/evidence of good standing (compulsory)
Collecting the evidence for ‘grandparenting’ • CV Qualifications/posts/clinical experience/CPD/teaching/research/management/clinical leadership/memberships • Portfolio of experience Log book-case mix, age range, clinical treatments/referrals/teaching/research//publications/evidence of non-clinical –admin/mgt • Testimonials
