The Science of MusicFall 2007 • WEBSITE • www.physics.ucf.edu/~bindell • Contains Syllabus, Information and A brief set of Introductory Notes on Graphs and Musical issues. • All lecture material can be found on the site, usually the day before it will be used in class. • Sometimes the day AFTER! • References to other interesting sites will be posted. • Feel free to suggest sites that you think will be helpful.
NO FINAL EXAM! • Three Examinations • One Term Paper (Rules on the site) • A presentation (15 minutes) on some aspect of your term paper. • PowerPoint recommended but not required.
Textbook • Measured Tones, The Interplay of Physics and Music by Ian Johnston. Second Edition (2002) Institute of Physics Publishing (Textbook has been ordered from the bookstore. Also available from Amazon.com.)
Good Reference • The Physics and Psychophysics of Music (An Introduction) by Juan G. Roederer. Third Edition (1995). Springer-Verlag This was a required textbook for the first delivery of this course but was eliminated because many of the students found the text a bit too dense.
