  2. “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” 1 Cor. 13:11 Context • The time of partial gifts = childhood • The perfect law is complete = manhood. • When the perfect law is come, he will put away the things of childhood

Faith and Trust • Children trust their parents • Isa. 12:2 “Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; 'For the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation..” • Prov. 3:5 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding.”

  6. Childish Traits We Should Keep 2. Faith and Trust “I didn’t hold on to the rope,” he replied. “I just tied it around my waist, and the rope held on to me.” Let God hold on to you.

  7. Childish Traits We Should Keep 3. Sympathy • Compassionate • Tender hearted • Rom. 12:15 “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.” • Eph. 4:32 “be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

Forgiving • Fuss / fight - play together in a few minutes • Col. 3:13 “bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” • Lk. 11:4 “And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”

Tattling Prov. 16:27-28 “An ungodly man digs up evil, And it is on his lips like a burning fire. 28 A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends.” Lev. 19:16 "You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD." 1 Tim. 5:13 "And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not."

Attention • Children want to be the center of attention • Adults = pride • Gal. 6:3 “For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” • 1 Pet 5:6 “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time”

  13. Childish Things To Put away 3. Jealousy • Children will destroy things of another • Gal 5:26 “Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.” • Gal. 5:15 “But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!”

  14. Childish Things To Put away 3. Jealousy Prov. 14:30 “A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.” Sound Heart = person right with God, way to health and happiness Envy = Rottenness of the bones fretful, discontented spirit, makes a person miserable

Unstable • Children are changeable and inconsistent • Sometimes will not finish a job or task • 1 Cor. 15:58 Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. • 1 Cor. 16:13 "Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong”
