Installing and running FLUKA in VirtualBox Nov. 22, 2016 Jongseok Lee (Sungkyunkwan University)
FLUKA • FLUKA (FLUktuierende Kaskade) is a fully integrated Monte Carlo simulation package for the interaction and transport of particles and nuclei in matter. • FLUKA has many applications in particle physics, high energy experimental physics and engineering, shielding, detector and telescope design, cosmic ray studies, dosimetry, medical physics, radiobiology. • A graphical user interface to run FLUKA named Flair has been developed using Python and is available at the project's web-site.
FLUPIX • FLUPIX is Linux Live CD, with pre-installed FLUKA, Flair and all the necessary tools in for performing fluka runs. • FLUPIX is only able to run through the VirtualBox machine (www.virtualbox.org) • FLUPIX iso image : flupix-20[xx].[y]-flair.iso - https://www.fluka.org/fluka.php?id=download&sub=packages
VirtualBox • VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware, targeted at server, desktop. • https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
Installation FLUPIX • Download and Install from VirtualBox. • Download flupix-XXX.iso and flupix-vdi.zip files, from the download section of the FLUKA web site. • Start Virtualbox and create a virtual machine using the following settings http://www.fluka.org/content/tools/flupix/
Running FLUPIX terminal flair
Running fluka • pwd /home/flupix mkdir ex1 cd ex1 • Download ex1.inp and copy it to /home/flupix/ex1 • $FLUPRO/flutil/rfluka -e $FLUPRO/flukahp -N0 -M1 ex1 https://indico.cern.ch/event/442634/contributions/1096524/attachments/1183405/1714431/02_Installation_2015.pdf
